| Tsada Golf Course Cyprus |
Tsada which opened in April 1994 is the oldest of Cyprus’s three championship golf courses. The creation of celebrated course designer Donald Steel, it is situated in a fertile gently sloping valley some 550 meters above sea level about a 15-minute drive north-east of Paphos just off the main road to Polis. A Par-72 layout measuring 6,060 meters from the back trees, Tsada consist of two loops of nine holes with many of the fruit trees, grape vines and conifers planted during Tsadas initial development. Now reaching maturity thus giving the course excellent definition. Most of the fairways are sloped, placing an emphasis on accuracy rather than long hitting. One of the unique features of Tsada is the 12th century monastery that sits at the far end of the course by the 7th tee helps to promote an air of timelessness and romance. Indeed, to this day a monk is still resident on the site and is regularly to be spotted in his garden. The signature hole at Tsada is probably the par 3 14th, a thrilling shot hole which is played from an elevated tee across a ravine to a green cleverly positioned on the side of a hill. The par 5 17th, which measures more than 530 meters, is another hole which sticks readily in the mind with its winding fairway and a meandering stream that comes in to play three times. Over the road from the clubhouse golfers can limber up for their rounds on a full size driving range practice on a putting green, a chipping area and a video coaching service supplied by the resident PGA professional. The club house is warm and welcoming in atmosphere, plus also has a bar, restaurant and tennis court. While the sleepy nearby village of Tsada is the ideal retreat for golfers in search of a quiet break or traditional cuisine. |
